Google has finally unveiled its Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL smartphones in its ‘Made by Google’ event in the US. The two handsets that were being teased since weeks will be available in select countries including the US at $799 and $899 for the base models. The handsets come in two variants based on storage capacities – 64GB and 128GB. These won’t be coming to India, as confirmed by Google. However, those in the US will be able to get their hands on the smartphones starting October 24 in three colours – Clearly White, Just Black and limited edition Oh So Orange.
The highlight of the two smartphones is the two cameras at the back that now includes a telephoto lens as well. The firm has not only focussed on Super Res Zoom feature but also on the Night Sight that can now capture the night sky more clearly. In addition, the firm claims to have improved the Portrait mode with better edge detection and have introduced new White Balance and Contrast features as well. You can now even use the Live HDR+ feature to get more true-to-life images.
The new Google Pixel 4 smartphones come with a new Google Assistant that is now faster. It has also been redesigned so it doesn’t take much room on the screen.
However, the focus is the Motion Sense feature that uses Soli Radar chip to navigate without touching the screen. The chip can sense when the user is reaching for the handset and will trigger the face unlock security layer to reduce the unlock time.
Some new apps are there as well including the live transcription feature in the Recorder app, Personal Safety app and more.
As for the technical specifications, the Pixel 4 has a 5.7-inch FHD+ OLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate while the larger sibling has a 6.3-inch screen size with QHD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. Both are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and support 6GBG RAM with 64GB or 128GB inbuilt storage options.
Both have a 16MP telephoto sensor with f/2.4 aperture along with a 12.2MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture. There’s also an 8MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture. Some of the additional features include Active Edge, Motions Sense and more.
Both the smartphones also support 18W fast charging with Type-C Gen 3.1 port. There are stereo speakers as well.
